Recoil

A volatility fade instrument. It measures when a candle is statistically exceptional, marks where the level sits, and reports what price has historically done afterwards. It does not tell you to buy or sell.

Operator's guide · Read once, then use the settings reference at the bottom.

What it measures

Every candle's true range is divided by the average true range of the last eight candles. That ratio answers one question: how big is this candle compared to a normal recent candle? A ratio of 1.0 is exactly average. 3.0 is three times the recent norm.

The ratio places the candle in one of eight bands:

BandNameRatioColour
1Extremely Lowunder 0.30pale blue
2Very Low0.30 – 0.75light blue
3Low0.75 – 1.20blue
4Lower Medium1.20 – 1.65mid blue
5Medium1.65 – 2.10deep blue
6High Medium2.10 – 2.55yellow — trigger 1×
7High2.55 – 3.00orange — trigger 2×
8Very High3.00 and abovered — trigger 5×

Bands 6, 7 and 8 are the trigger bands. Everything below them is context.

What it does with that

When a candle closes in band 6, 7 or 8, Recoil marks a fade. A bearish exceptional candle marks a long. A bullish one marks a short. The premise is that overextended candles snap back.

That is the entire engine. One measurement, one response. No pattern recognition, no prediction, no stack of indicators agreeing with each other.

Recoil marks conditions. You decide. Nothing here is a signal to follow blindly, and the instrument has no opinion about whether now is a sensible time to be trading at all.

Setup

1 · Add it to TradingView

Indicators, then Invite-only scripts. Find Quant Prime — Recoil and add it to your chart. You must be logged into the TradingView account matching the username on your dashboard.

2 · Leave the settings alone

The panel ships on Custom, and every value in it is already the configuration actually traded. Change nothing for the first session.

3 · Watch before you act

Put it on a 3M EURUSD chart and watch one session without touching anything. You are looking for two things: how often a coloured candle appears, and what price does in the twenty minutes afterwards.

The settings that matter

Trading Style — Custom

Two options. Custom uses the individual settings in the panel. Scalping (3M) overrides with the backtested configuration: TP at 100% of body, SL at wick plus 3.0 ATR.

Time windows — 07:00–09:00, 13:00–14:00, 19:00–20:00 UTC

Conditions only resolve inside these hours. These are windows where the same expansion is worth more in pips while the spread stays exactly the same.

ATR Length — 8

The memory of the baseline. Shorter and the baseline adapts fast. Longer and a volatility burst keeps reading as extreme for longer.

Band risk multipliers — 1× / 2× / 5×

Band 6 at 1×, band 7 at 2×, band 8 at 5×. Each band can also be switched off entirely.

Band 8 candles are not profitable on their own. They stay because at 5× they subsidise the losses across bands 6 and 7, and the three together outperform any two.

Trend alignment — 2× with, 0.5× against, 1× consolidation

Set "against trend" to 0 to block counter-trend fades entirely—the single most effective change if fading strong trends is costing you.

Stop loss — wick plus 3.0 ATR

Wider than feels comfortable, deliberately. Narrowing this is the most common change people make and the most common reason their results get worse.

Where Recoil fails

It does not work in every condition

In a strong sustained trend an exceptional candle is often the start of something rather than an overreaction.

It does not tell you when to stay out

Check the regime before acting on a trigger. That single habit does more for your results than any setting in the indicator.

When it looks wrong

What you seeUsually

Meridian

A reversal instrument. It tracks the accumulation, manipulation and distribution rhythm underneath the session, and marks conditions when a level is swept and price rejects it. It does not tell you to buy or sell.

Operator's guide · Read once, then use the settings reference at the bottom.

What it measures

The market moves through repeating phases. A period of accumulation where price ranges. A manipulation phase where it pushes through an obvious level. Then distribution, where it actually moves.

Meridian tracks that rhythm on three cycle lengths: 12 hour, 6 hour and 3 hour. Only the 12 hour cycle is enabled by default.

Each cycle leaves behind A-lines, which mark the highs and lows of its accumulation phase. A condition resolves when:

  1. An A-line gets swept, which sets the directional bias
  2. Then price taps a vortex level, which marks the entry
Meridian marks conditions. You decide. Nothing here is a signal to follow blindly.

Why the cycles are anchored, not rolling

The cycles anchor to midnight in the chosen timezone, not to a rolling window. An anchored cycle puts phase boundaries where everybody else's are too—where the liquidity actually sits.

Setup

1 · Add it to TradingView

Indicators → Invite-only scripts → Quant Prime — Meridian.

2 · Two timezone settings

Timezone (cycle anchor) in AMD section defaults to UTC+1. Timezone in Time Windows defaults to UTC. They are deliberately different.

3 · Leave the defaults alone

These are the configuration actually traded. Change nothing for the first two weeks.

4 · Run it alone first

If you also have Recoil, take Recoil off to begin with. One instrument at a time until you know what each does on its own.

5 · Learn to see the sweep manually

Go back through a day and find a sweep yourself. Once you can spot it by eye, the instrument stops being a black box.

The settings that matter

Timezone, cycle anchor — UTC+1

The single most consequential setting. Every phase boundary and every A-line moves with it. Check this first if Meridian appears not to work.

Cycles — 12H on, 6H and 3H off

The 6H and 3H produce more conditions and finer structure. Turn them on one at a time, give each a fortnight.

Vortex — how a level qualifies

Once swept, the vortex layer decides which price levels count as a tap. It works on digits and changes every hour based on digit families (3,6,9 / 1,4,7 / 2,5,8).

Time windows — 00:00–02:00, 04:00–06:00, 19:00–20:00 UTC

Different from Recoil's windows—the two instruments trigger on different conditions at different times.

Exit mode — Opposite Prime Only

Positions close when an opposite condition appears and the whole position flips. This is a bias decision rather than a stop-loss decision.

Stacking

Meridian stacks. Size each entry so the full stack sits within what you would have risked on one trade.

Where Meridian fails

It stops working above the 15 minute chart

Not degrades. Stops. The cycles need bars of structure that don't exist on 15M and above. No setting fixes this.

Its drawdown is roughly seven times Recoil's

Max drawdown 11.59% vs Recoil's 1.57%. Profit factor is higher (1.995 vs 1.657), so it earns the risk, but the ride is not comparable.

It triggers infrequently

Meridian needs a sweep, a tap and the right window. Your sample builds slowly.

When it looks wrong

Cockpit

An analytical instrument. It takes no trades, has no entries and produces no signals. What it does is measure the conditions across five timeframes at once, so the decision about what to trade is made against a graded reading rather than a feeling.

Operator's guide · Read once, then use the settings reference at the bottom.

What it is for

Recoil and Meridian both trigger when their own conditions appear. Neither has an opinion about whether the wider market suits them.

That gap is where most losses come from in a system that genuinely works. Recoil faded in a strong trend. Meridian traded in a session with no clean liquidity. The instrument did exactly what it was built to do, in conditions it was not built for.

Cockpit is the wider picture. It tells you what kind of market you are in, and you decide what that means.

Judged as a trading instrument, Cockpit fails immediately. It makes no money on its own. The correct test is whether it stops you giving money back in weeks you should not have been trading.

The regime score

Grades market quality out of 90, per timeframe, from two components:

  • Stability, 0 to 40. Current ATR measured against its 50 period average. Scores 40 when close, 0 when they diverge.
  • Trend, 0 to 50. ADX, capped at 50.

Note: stability measures consistency, not size. Large candles push the score down.

GradeScoreReading
PRIMEabove 70Conditions match what the systems were measured against
FAVORABLEabove 55Workable
MARGINALabove 40Something is off. Reduce, or wait.
DEGRADED40 or belowWrong conditions entirely

A Recoil fade taken at 74 is a different trade from the identical fade at 41, even though the candle looks the same.

Reading the dashboard

Five rows (timeframes: 1 day, 3 hours, 30 minutes, your chart, 3 minutes). Five columns (regime, score, EMA bias, volatility band, trend).

Five rows pointing the same way = market doing one thing at every scale. Trend following works, fading is expensive.

Rows disagreeing = market doing different things at different scales. Reversals find setups, trend following gets chopped.

You need the habit of looking at the five rows before you act, and asking whether the instrument you are about to use suits what you are seeing.

Setup

1 · Add it to TradingView

Indicators → Invite-only scripts → Quant Prime — Cockpit.

2 · Look at the dashboard only

For the first few days, ignore everything Cockpit draws on the chart. Read the five rows and nothing else.

3 · Then turn most of it off

Add layers back one at a time and keep only the ones that change a decision.

The layers

EMAs — 8 / 26 / 80 / 233

The trend classification behind the dashboard. A genuine trend requires the full 26/80/233 stack in order.

Liquidity pool levels — 3M / 30M / 3H

Fractal pivot highs and lows. Scale matters: a 3H level getting taken is an event. This layer adds the most to Meridian.

Fair value gaps — 3M and 30M

Three-candle gaps tracked with a lifecycle: fresh, tapped, filled. The busiest layer—keep it off until you specifically need it.

Volatility candle colours

Same eight bands as Recoil. If running both, turn colouring off in one.

AMD phase shading — 24H / 12H / 6H, UTC+0

Different from Meridian's cycles (12/6/3H at UTC+1). They serve different purposes.

Higher timeframe candles — 30M and 3H

Shows current HTF candles to the right of your chart. Tells you how far through the candle you are.

What Cockpit does not do

It does not tell you which instrument to use. It does not produce entries. It does not make money. Its entire value is in the trades you do not take.

Using it with the other instruments

Order that works: Cockpit first, then instrument, then build.

Cockpit tells you what kind of market this is. That informs whether Recoil or Meridian is appropriate, or whether neither is and you sit out.

If reading the week is the part you are unsure about, ask QP Intelligence. It knows all three engines and how they relate.
